Kamaljeet singh born 14 February at Lucknow. Passed high school from Kanya kubja inter college, Lucknow. Then moved to Punjab for further studies. Joined B.sc. Agriculture at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. There after completed M.sc. Horticulture with specialisation in landscaping and Floriculture. Joined ITC Hotel, The MUGHAL, Agra in March 1976.
The hotel was planned as a cool haven in the hot,dusty climate by Arcop associates. Mr Ramesh Khosla was the chief designer based in Canada. Professor Ravinder Bhan was landscape architect from Delhi school Of planing and architecture. In later years, Hotel won Aga Khan award for Architecture and landscaping and many awards for Environment Care.
The main features of the hotel were extensively landscaped Garden. Water lilies of main entrance pond, welcoming visitors, guests. A formal terrace Garden, Nishat Bagh with flowing water, Guest rooms grouped around three landscaped courtyards with different garden levels, flowing water and swimming pool. An informally landscaped Bagh-e-Bahisht thrilled visitors most along nature walks. Rainwater Harvesting pond of huge capacity with fishes, aeration fountains and water lilies enhanced visitors cheerfulness and experience.
Team Horticulture operated a large nursery of Plants for Garden maintenance, practiced biological pest control, besides recycling large quantities of landscape waste as manure. He worked in this beautiful biodiverse green zone for 35 years till 14 th February 2011. During this period he learned to love trees, birds, butterflies and met visitors who enjoyed outdoor walks. Met tourist from India and abroad including Kew Garden, London.
He participated actively in organising Welcomenviron environment awareness programme of the company besides planting for planet under Billion Tree planting campaign of UNEP by planting trees at site and elsewhere in the city. Environment awareness activities were carried out by him for school children & Citizens. Heritage trees of Agra is his favourite project evolved over years of documentation. The green zones studies will reman a key focus area for him always. Hopefully, Waheguru will keep him involved in this exercise in future.
