ये आत्मकथा पंजाबी में छपी और अपेक्षा से कहीं ज्यादा कामयाब हुई । दो साल में आठ संस्करण छप चुके हैं। पंजाबी पाठकों ने जहाँ पुस्तक को अगाध स्नेह दिया वहीं अपने गैर पंजाबी मित्रों व परिजनों के लिये हिंदी में माँग की। उनका कहना था कि नशे की बीमारी से पीड़ित लोग देश भर में हैं । उनके साथ साथ मेरे खेल जगत के मित्र जो अन्य राज्यों में रहते हैं उनकी भी इच्छा थी कि इसे हिंदी में लिखा जाए। नशा छुड़वाने के केंद्र चला रहे लोगों की भी लगातार मांग आ रही थी । परंतु एक ठेठ पंजाबी द्वारा ठेठ पंजाबी में की गई खुराफातों को हिंदी में अनुवाद करने के लिए हिंदी भाषा माहिर की मदद चाहिए थी । इस कार्य में मैडम मनदीप कौर ने साथ दिया । और एक वादा है सभी से कि इसे पढ़कर आप निराश नही होंगे क्योकि ये सिर्फ अनुवाद नहीं है । बहुत मेहनत की है इसे सरल भाषा में लिखने के लिये इस आत्मकथा को पढ़ने के बाद मुझे महसूस हुआ कि साहित्य की उत्तम रचना किसी एक भाषा तक सीमित नहीं रहनी चाहिये । जो इंसान मौत के मुँह से निकल दूसरों के लिये प्रेरणा स्रोत बनें उसकी जीवनी हर उस व्यक्ति तक पहुँचनी चाहिये जो जिन्दगी जीने की जंग लड़ रहा है । बहुत से पंजाबी पाठकों के विचार जानने को मिले जिन्हें इस पुस्तक से जीवन की नई राह मिली ।
