किन्तु यह उपन्यास केवल पतन की कहानी नहीं है। अथक परिश्रम, कर्मयोग और अडिग विश्वास के बल पर वही व्यक्ति आईएएस अधिकारी बनता है। सत्ता, अधिकार और प्रतिष्ठा उसे नहीं बदलते। वह पहले की तरह ही विनम्र, न्यायप्रिय और मानवीय बना रहता है—और इसी कारण एक आदर्श अधिकारी के रूप में प्रतिष्ठित होता है।
