WHILE THE WORLD WAS WATCHING
A Teen's Journey Through School, Friendship, Sports, Growing Up and Finding Myself
What happens when a teenager decides to stop scrolling, start writing, and simply ask: Who am I?
While the World Was Watching is an honest, personal and refreshingly unfiltered look at teenage life through the eyes of Satnam Kaur Batth, a young student from Punjab.
What began almost casually—without a clear plan, title or idea of where the writing would lead—slowly became a book about the ordinary and extraordinary parts of growing up.
From family and culture to school life, friendships, hobbies, sports, overthinking, procrastination and embarrassing moments, Satnam explores the experiences that shape a young person's everyday world.
The book also looks at the parts of teenage life that are not always visible to others: the thoughts that stay inside, the things that annoy us, the side of ourselves we don't always show, moments when we feel misunderstood, and the questions we begin asking as we grow older.
Sports have an important place in the author's story. Her experiences with lawn tennis, including tournaments and the challenge of balancing practice with studies, become part of a larger reflection on interests, persistence, breaks, goals and growing up.
With chapter titles such as “Overthinking & Dramatic Brain Moments,” “Procrastination – My Biggest Enemy,” “Embarrassing School Moments,” “Things I'll Probably Miss One Day,” “Why I Wrote This,” and “A Letter to My Future Self,” the book captures the humour, confusion, honesty and self-questioning that can make adolescence such a memorable stage of life.
This is not presented as a perfect life story. It is a young person's attempt to understand herself, record her experiences and share them with readers who may recognise something of their own lives in these pages.
At its heart, While the World Was Watching is about being young, figuring things out, making mistakes, enjoying the moment, thinking too much sometimes, and slowly discovering who you are.
An engaging choice for teenagers, young readers, parents, educators and anyone curious about how today's young generation sees school, friendship, sports, family and themselves.

About Author
Satnam Kaur Batth is a young writer from Punjab, India, and the author of While the World Was Watching.
A Grade 9 student, Satnam began writing this book simply because she wanted to try something new and create something of her own. What started without a fixed plan gradually developed into a personal collection of thoughts, experiences, observations and memories from her teenage years.
Her interests extend beyond writing. She has a strong passion for sports and began playing lawn tennis in Grade 3. She has participated in tennis tournaments and received a silver medal and certificate in a 2025 tournament. She also enjoys football, basketball, table tennis and badminton.
Satnam's writing reflects the everyday world of a teenager—school, friendships, family, hobbies, overthinking, procrastination, embarrassing moments, ambitions and the process of understanding oneself.
Through While the World Was Watching, she invites readers to see teenage life from her perspective and to remember that growing up does not always come with clear answers.
For Satnam, writing is an opportunity to explore who she is, preserve her experiences and discover where her own story may lead.
