Touching the Untouched: The Transformative Journey of Distance Education in Middle Kerala is an insightful exploration of how open and distance learning has reshaped educational accessibility in one of India’s most vibrant regions. The book captures the remarkable journey of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre, Cochin, and its impact on expanding educational opportunities across districts such as Alleppey, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kottayam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. In a world where education is the key to social mobility, this book highlights how the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system has successfully bridged the gap between traditional education and the needs of modern learners. Through digital learning systems, flexible academic programs, learner support services, and innovative educational models, IGNOU has empowered thousands of students who once remained outside the reach of higher education. This work documents a decade of transformation (2006–2016), showcasing how the regional centre became a powerful change agent in educational development, touching lives across socio-economic backgrounds and age groups. A must-read for educators, policy makers, students of education, and researchers, this book provides valuable insights into the evolving landscape of distance education in India and its role in shaping an inclusive knowledge society. Published by Rigi Publication, the book stands as an important contribution to the documentation of educational reforms and institutional impact in India.
