Gender and Disability in Education – Barriers and Opportunities by Dr. Dazy Zarabi and Dr. Kuldip Kaur is a landmark academic work that reshapes the way society understands gender, disability, and inclusion in India. Published by Rigi Publication, one of the Top Book Publishers in India, this powerful book presents a holistic, research-based, and deeply analytical exploration of disability and gender inequality across education, cinema, employment, rural development, social attitudes, and public policy. Organized into 21 deeply researched chapters, the book includes contributions ranging from personal narratives to scientific analyses, showcasing how disability affects artists, workers, sports persons, children, rural women, HIV-positive women, and marginalized communities. The text highlights the distorted representation of disability in Bollywood, the gender-based discrimination prevalent in rural India, the vulnerability of women with disability to HIV/AIDS, and the systemic failures in curriculum, accessibility, public health, and school infrastructure. The book digs into real field studies from Chandigarh, Noida, Jammu & Kashmir, and rural India, revealing ground realities such as poor adaptive devices, lack of special educators, and social stigma towards disabled women. It emphasizes the transition from the medical model of disability to the social model, stressing the importance of empowerment, education, and human rights. This work is indispensable for educators, researchers, policymakers, social workers, NGOs, inclusion advocates, disability rights activists, and universities. It serves as both a knowledge resource and a policy blueprint for inclusive education in India. Available on RigiPublication.com (Paperback, eBook & eBook Rent), Amazon & Flipkart.
