Paradvait Darshan — The Philosophy of Supreme Non-Duality, Consciousness and Liberation
What is the ultimate nature of reality?
Is the world separate from the Supreme Consciousness—or is everything an expression of that one Reality?
Paradvait Darshan by Dr. Surinder Pal presents an exploration of the philosophy of Paradvaita, an Indic philosophical perspective associated with the non-dual understanding of the Supreme Reality, consciousness, the individual and the universe.
Drawing inspiration from the philosophical thought associated with Abhinavagupta and important works of the Kashmir Shaiva tradition, this book examines the relationship between the Supreme, consciousness, the individual self, bondage, liberation and the manifested world. Abhinavagupta's writings played a major role in systematizing and developing monistic Shaiva philosophy and tantric thought.
At the heart of the book is a profound proposition: the Supreme Reality is not separate from the multiplicity of existence. The many forms of the world can be understood as expressions of the one supreme consciousness and its dynamic power.
The book explores ideas surrounding:
- Supreme consciousness and ultimate reality
- Non-duality and the relationship between unity and multiplicity
- The individual self and the Supreme
- The nature of bondage and liberation
- The role of divine power or Shakti
- The relationship between knower, knowledge and known
- The manifestation of the universe
- The philosophical meaning of freedom and self-realization
- The relationship between the Supreme and the diversity of existence
Paradvait Darshan is particularly relevant for readers interested in Indian philosophy, Kashmir Shaivism, non-duality, Hindu philosophical traditions, consciousness studies, metaphysics, spirituality and self-realization.
Rather than treating liberation merely as an escape from the world, the book presents a perspective in which understanding one's own essential nature becomes central to freedom.
For students, researchers, teachers, spiritual seekers and serious readers of Indian philosophical traditions, Paradvait Darshan offers an opportunity to engage with an important stream of Indic philosophical reflection.
